State Tightens Freedom of Information Law
HOME

The Town of Evans Routinely Refuses To Provide Documents Requested Under The Freedom of Information Law! While New York's Law Might Be One Of The Best In The Nation, Other State's Laws Provide For Jail Time As A Penalty For Those That Break This Law. A Truly Open Government, One With Nothing To Hide, Would Provide Documents Upon Request And Not Require Residents To Write A Formal Request.

This Is A Very Important Issue. Maybe The Buffalo News Will Investigate And Compare How The Towns of Evans And Eden Comply With Freedom of Information Requests And Conduct "The Peoples" Business. Two Adjoining Towns. Two Very Different Style of Governance. Eden Has An Open Government While Evans Has A Closed Government That Attacks And Slanders Residents Questioning Policy And Town Board Decisions. At One Town Board Meeting, The Supervisor Apologized (3) Three Times For The Arrogant And Condescending Behavior Of Town Board Members!

While Evans Officials Will Deny This Charge, There Is Proof. Eden, A Much Smaller Town, Has A First Class Web Site To Inform And Serve Its Residents. At Best, The Evans Web Site Is An Embarrassment.
